The Jackson Center for Independent Living (JCIL) is a nonprofit, tax-deductible 501-C-3 United Way agency. We work with people with significant disabilities and the Deaf Community in achieving their Independent Living Goals while assisting the community in eliminating barriers to Independent Living. Our programs include: Information and Referral, Peer Support, Skills Training, Advocacy, Services for the Deaf, Home Modifications and Other Opportunities including...


Home Ownership Initiative: This program assists individuals with disabilities in owning their own home.

Home Modification Program: This program provides consumers with ramps, rails, accessible bathroom fixtures, lifts, TTY's, hands-free telephones among other assistive devices. Funding/United Way, Community Development Block Grants

Personal Assistant Services Management Training: Letter of Understanding with the State for future services to VR Consumers.

Social and recreational programs include organized trips to sporting events, fishing trips, wheelchair racing events, musical performances and other social gatherings as well as partnering with local recreational departments in making playgrounds accessible.

Public Awareness: JCIL provides speakers to clubs and organizations regularly such as Rotary, Civitan, Optimists and AARP.

JCIL is funded by grants and local contributions and fundraising. Our requests for services far exceed our source for services and additional funding is greatly needed.
